Nokia 800 and 710 web benchmarks are out, turn as good as expected

We conclude our coverage of the second day of Nokia World 2011, with a share of the points of reference of the newly announced smartphones WP. The Lumia Lumia Nokia 800 and 710 were present to see how the Snapdragon chipset 1.4Ghz rates.
To put into perspective the performance was released on the radar and 7 Mozart HTC Mango run the update in the mix. The radar has a very similar chipset to the two smartphones Lumia, but Scorpion CPU is clocked at 1GHz. We must show what type of additional benefit of 400 MHz clock speed actually carry. The 7 Mozart not only has a slower CPU than two Nokia smartphones, but also the weakness of the GPU (Adreno 200, instead of Adreno 205), so we'll see how much of a difference it makes.
BrowserMark and was started with Nokia 710 Lumia, who drew first blood, scoring 32. 854 points (higher is better here). La Lumia 800 came in second place with 32,594 points, but for practical purposes the operation of the two was identical. The radar was third HTC and HTC 7 Mozart finished last with the margin of defeat than about what the difference specifications suggest.

Nokia 800 Lumia evened the score by winning the second reference point Microsoft Tank goldfish. It delivered 53 fps versus 50 fps Lumia 710. HTC's radar was somewhat behind with 38fps, while the less powerful GPU of Mozart 7 has permitted only 30 frames per second.
La Lumia 800 scored another point in the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark and once again the 710 Lumia was so close that the two were virtually indistinguishable. HTC smartphones here was very similar results, but none of them were close to the scores Lumia. That's all understandable considering the nature of the reference (only stresses the CPU).
The final test was JSBenchmark Nokia Lumia Celtikcane and 800 made three wins from four. La Lumia 710 did not disappoint for a second and came very close, while the third place 25% of radar head. The 7 Mozart was almost two times slower than the leader.

However, the Scorpions 1.4GHz within two Nokia smartphones are so great an increase in processing power (compared to options 1 GHz) as expected.

Steve Jobs called Intel chip design, the inflexibility

Steve Jobs had some choice words for Intel that went beyond censorship of arrogance in the newly published biography.
In Walter Isaacson's biography, "Steve Jobs", the former CEO of Apple, who died recently, had major problems with Intel as a company and its world-class processors.
Apple changed the design of Intel x86 chips in 2005, when he fell from IBM and Motorola PowerPC processors. And Intel's chips have been pushing the Apple MacBook and Mac exclusively ever since.

But Jobs's biography implies that Intel was not complying with the times. He explains why Apple has chosen Intel chips for the iPhone.
"There were two reasons for not going with them. One of them was that they [the companies] are really slow. They are like a steamer is not very flexible. We used to go very fast. The second is that simply do not want you to teach you all things that could go to sell to our competitors, "Jobs is quoted as saying.
On one level this last statement is quite remarkable. Jobs, of course, was saying that Apple would have to teach largest chipmaker in the world is the way to improve the design of chips. But on the other, it speaks of Achilles' heel of Intel's chips are fast but comparatively inefficient power.
"A high level of performance, Intel is the better," Jobs is quoted in the book. "Build the fastest, if you do not care about power and cost."
Jobs did not stop there. "We try to help Intel, but do not listen much," he said.
The book describes Tony Fadell, Apple's senior vice president, as a tool in moving Apple chip design alternative. He "argued strongly" for a design of UK-based ARM - virtually all the powers of the world's smartphones and tablets. (In addition to Apple and its A4 and A5 chips, companies like Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Marvell and Nvidia making chips based on ARM design).
Later, Apple went out and bought PASemi, who helped create the first high-profile Apple system on a chip, the A4. Apple and then later bought the house Intrinsity ARM design.
Employment and also expressed a complaint that many enthusiasts PC games have been leveled at Intel for many years. "We've been saying for years that its graphics [silicon] suck".
Isaacson also includes a replica of Intel CEO Paul Otellini. "It would make sense for the iPad to use Intel chips. ... The problem is that Apple and Intel could not agree on the price. In addition, they disagreed on who would control the design, "according to the book.
It would be unfair not to note that Intel seems to have gotten the message. More energy efficient Intel Sandy Bridge processors now all the power of Apple MacBook Air laptops. And Apple switched to Intel's graphics silicon into the latest models of MacBook Air and fell Nvidia, whose graphics focused on the chipset had been in previous generations of air.
And Intel is now on a crusade to build energy-efficient chips, exemplified by the creation of a fund of $ 300 million to boost the development of Ultrabooks, which are a new category of thin laptops that use mostly low power consumption of Intel "ULV" (ultra-low voltage) chips.
Intel is also working towards the 2013 debut of a highly efficient power chip called "Haswell," the company is calling a system-on-a-chip, the same kind of highly integrated design that is used on food in ARM smartphones and tablets. Haswell is considered important because it is based on mainstream Intel x86 architecture - the same as his successor Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge - not in the least well received Atom processor.
And there was another side to the working relationship with Intel, in particular highly respected former CEO Andy Grove. Isaacson Grove describes as a "mentor" of Jobs.
Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar agrees. "Jobs were very deferential to Andy Grove. Jobs saw it," said Kumar.

Gazelle: BlackBerry as part payment at any time-high

Gazelle Gadget purchaser who buys equipment in exchange for money, announced today that it has seen a 80 percent increase in trade BlackBerry since last week, up from record levels earlier this month.
The metric is a prolonged disruption of Research In Motion-mail and messaging services to BlackBerry, which left users can not communicate with each other or send and receive e-mails worldwide. To placate the angry users, RIM provides users with $ 100 free "premium" of applications. The rise coincided with the launch of Apple iPhone 4S.

Gazelle "Chief Gadget Officer 'Anthony Scarsella told CNET that this is" easily the largest volume of trades BlackBerry seen period. "That includes a" spike "due to court this month." In the grand scheme of growth of BlackBerry in the last month, may be more or less completely attributed to the launch of the iPhone 4S, "Scarsella said.
Besides seeing a boost BlackBerry recent Scarsella says Android as part payment has been an increase of 72 percent over the same period of time. That number may be slightly blurred to attribute to any type of event though.
Gazelle says that most of Android as part of the payment have been on the Sprint network, which began to take the iPhone for the first time this month. Users can also plan the future of one of the many new Android devices announced in recent weeks. That includes two cores Motorola Razr Droid 4G LTE smartphone and Samsung Nexus Galaxy, which was released both within hours of each other and represent the latest and greatest in the Google Android platform.
In total, Gazelle has seen about 65,000 payments as part of Apple's iPhone, as it began to buy customers, and Scarsella said he expects the number to reach 75,000 by the end of this week. Earlier this month, the company reported becoming iPhone using cash, once every 15 seconds in an attempt to block the buyback price on the day they announced the iPhone 4S.

Sprint AT & T refused to fight in documents merger T-Mobile

Sprint Nextel lost in an attempt to get AT & T documents that have provided the third largest carrier in U.S. wireless with additional ammunition in their battle to stop the acquisition of AT & T T-Mobile USA.
Reuters reported that U.S. District Judge Ellen Huvelle rejected the request of Sprint for documents, which have also given valuable insight into the company's rival AT & T operations. Huvelle also heard the arguments of AT & T seeks dismissal of lawsuits filed by Sprint and regional airline Spire C in an attempt to block the deal, T-Mobile. She has not yet made a decision on its position as opponents of the merger.
AT & T planned purchase of T-Mobile is under threat from the Department of Justice, which sued to block the deal. Spire Sprint and C have jumped as well as their own judgments.
AT & T says it is working on two tracks in an attempt to salvage the deal, the first of a possible solution and the second building their case in court.
Sprint, meanwhile, has argued that the documents required to obtain AT & T has provided the Justice Department properly so you can build your own case. Sprint also said that AT & T and Sprint has been given to the Justice Department documents.
Reuters reported that Huvelle refused to give Sprint documents. "I do not see it as efficient and fair," Huvelle said in denying the motion.
Sprint, meanwhile, called the denial of the documents and review of their legal standing "procedural", saying it has to do with the merits of the case itself. The company argues that the possible acquisition of AT & T-Mobile T could stifle innovation and harm consumers, and to remove a low-cost provider of wireless services.

Skin-like sensor is flexible enough to prosthetic

Stanford researchers are developing new sensors as flexible and sensitive to pressure that could be used to make prosthetic touch, pressure-sensitive plates, and more.
By incorporating a transparent film of carbon nano-sources, the sensor "can record pressure ranging from a strong pinch between thumb and forefinger to double the pressure exerted by an elephant on one foot" says Darren Lipomi postdoctoral researcher, co-author of an article published October 23 in the journal Nature Nanotechnology. "None of this makes any permanent deformation."

The team built the nano-sources airbrushing nanotubes (which are in liquid suspension) in a thin layer of, you guessed it, silicone. Then spread the silicone to get some of those little packets in the alignment in the direction of stretching. After his release, the packages are returned back to its original dimensions, randomly oriented, whereas in fact bent nanotubes and nanostructures formed seem springs.
By stretching the silicone for the second time in a direction perpendicular to the line first, some of the other nanotube bundles aligned in the second direction, so that the sensor is fully extensible in any direction with full recovery.
"Having done this kind of stretching prior to the nanotubes behave like springs and can stretch over and over again, without any permanent change in the way," said Zhenan Bao, associate professor of chemical engineering, in a press release of the institution.
Add to repeat the stretch below the original span length is not significantly alter the electrical conductivity, and the maintenance of the conductivity in a stretched and compressed is key because the sensors for measuring the force applied to them through the nanostructures as spring, which serve as electrodes.
A silicone layer actually stores electrical charge much in the way a battery does, and when pressure is exerted on the sensor (think of an elephant stomps), which compresses the layer, which alters the electrical charge it can store. It is this change which is perceived by carbon nanotubes, causing the sensor to transmit information on the levels of pressure.
The team believes that the types of uniform pressure-induced deformation (stretching versus the compression) can be solved due to the very patterns of deformation. With compression, for example, a bull's eye pattern is more likely that most deformation is concentrated in the center.
This sensor is not sensitive to the pressure of previous efforts Bao's team, created a highly sensitive sensor that can detect pressure "well below the pressure exerted by a body 20 milligrams hornet fly." For this sensor, the focus was less on the sensitivity and elasticity, but Bao insists that with some modifications, this sensor can boast the best of both worlds

YouTube star deaf hear the sounds of the future

Sarah Churm is unlikely Internet star. The Texas stays at home mother of two girls has something ordinary interest - she likes reading, watching movies and attending concerts with her husband of nearly 10 years, Sloan.
But on 26 September this year, Churm was catapulted to fame thanks to YouTube intimate film, home to spread. She was born deaf. But that day, he heard his own voice for the first time. The video clip of 91 seconds brought the viewer goose bumps, tears and empathy for this extraordinary woman.
When I interviewed Sarah Churm Sloan and doctor's offices in San Jose, California, she explained that the deaf community tends to fall into two categories: those who want to use technology to recover their hearing and trying to make the most of life without him. She is very firmly rooted in the first camp and has spent much of his adult life investigating the recent hearing devices enter the market. In May 2011, Churm heard a radio ad for the implant sent doctors estimated. That set the ball in motion for a summer full of hope, frustration, excitement, and ultimately success.

A viral video star talks of learning to listen
Implants estimates are approved by the FDA and a cost of $ 30,000 by ear. Until now, insurance companies do not cover the device or surgery, because they see it as more of a cosmetic procedure. But Churm and her husband could not be dissuaded, and even considered selling organs on the black market to get money for the device. That's when Sloan's mother intervened and decided Churm withdraw money from a retirement fund for Sarah could have the procedure performed in one ear. In August, surgeons implanted a listening device in his skull estimated. Seven weeks later, has been activated and your voice is heard for the first time.
The estimated hearing aid is implanted behind the ear of the patient.

Since the YouTube video and was spread over eight million visitors, the Churmans have appeared on the "Today Show", "The Doctors" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
They are happy to be part of the media circus to get attention for the success of the estimation of expected insurance companies to pay for them someday. It was while Sarah Churm was a guest on "Ellen", she learned that the doctors sent is reimbursing his mother-in-law for the first $ 30,000 and now cover the estimated cost of the second device, that it is thinking of having implemented this spring.
Despite the recent media attention, Churm is a discreet woman, gentle and humble in describing his voice sounds like a "palette." Unlike many of the deaf, his speech is almost flawless, despite never clear herself while growing audience. It's something she attributes to the deaf school and his love for the English language and grammar. Now that you are fully able to participate in life, for her, the simplest of sounds that brought the greatest joy: the voices of his daughters screaming, the sound of rain on the roof, and the singing of the birds in your garden. When going to a movie, she no longer has to push her husband to catch up on the dialog box. At concerts you can actually move your body to a beat. Small things she never did and never take for granted.

Windows-on-Intel little pill for the future about sharing

Windows tablet runs on Intel processors are not expected to take significant market share of ARM market leader, at least a couple of years, according to market research firm DisplaySearch.
In 2012, the tablets of Windows running on x86 chips - which are predominantly Intel - to obtain only 1.8 percent of the market or units of about 1.8 million of a total market of 100 million units, according to Richard Shim of DisplaySearch, which issued a report released today. Most of these pills use Intel Atom processor, Shim said.
This will improve slightly in 2013 to 3.1 million tablets of Windows 8 running on x86 processors, or about 2.1 percent of a market, according to Shim. In 2013, the tablet market in general is expected to increase to 148 million units.

Wedge expects a lot of these units based on X86 in 2013 for use Haswell Intel processor that is due in the first half of this year. Haswell is expected to be more highly integrated chips leading Intel to date, even more than the processor to replace - Ivy Bridge.
Haswell Intel calls a system-on-a-chip (SoC), which means it is likely to approach the level of integration of Qualcomm SoC that populate many smartphones.
Haswell also be able Ultrabooks in 2013. However, what constitutes a Ultrabook in 2013, nobody knows. Haswell is based on Windows 8 hybrid Ultrabook more tablets? And if they have a tablet? If so, Intel's participation could be much higher in 2013.
Of course, the elephant in the room is ARM. Shipments of tablet PC with chips that have their roots in the design of the ARM is still dominating and is expected to grow 211 percent year over year in 2011 to 59.9 million units. And the tablets with ARM-based chips will grow just below $ 100 million in 2012.
Apple and Nvidia are the largest suppliers of ARM chips for tablets, but today Qualcomm and Texas Instruments are expected to be major players in 2012.

Groupon sues former employees of Google, according to a report

Groupon has sued two former sales managers who are said company trade secrets competition from Google when they leave the site daily deals, according to a Bloomberg report.
Michael Nolan and Brian Hanna left the Chicago-based company last month in January to join Google offers, taking customer lists and marketing strategies with them, according to a lawsuit filed today in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois. The lawsuit, which does not name Google as a defendant, seeks to prevent information sharing with Google, according to the report.
"In his new position in Google offerings and / or Google, Hanna and Nolan provide the same or similar services, as they provide Groupon," requiring them "to use confidential and proprietary information he learned while working at Groupon," according the complaint, copies of which have not yet been made available on the Internet.
Google offers was announced one month after Groupon reportedly rejected the company $ 6 billion offer to buy in December 2010. The search giant has launched a beta version of its service and offers discount coupons in Portland, Oregon, in April.
Groupon, expected to go public in September, has been the subject of increased regulatory scrutiny lately. The Securities and Exchange Commission forced the daily deals provider to check your presentation documents after finding that the company mistakenly reported higher revenues than it should.
The errors and market volatility have forced the company to reduce its IPO plans. Groupon is expected to offer less than 10 percent of the company at a valuation of $ 12.5 million. This is in contrast to the $ 20 billion to $ 25 billion that many thought the company was worth in presenting its IPO papers in June.

Steve Jobs 2011 a possible bio-selling Amazon

Although Walter Isaacson's biography on the late co-founder of Apple Steve Jobs will hit stores a little over two months of 2011, could be a seller Amazon.com 's high throughout the year.

The title, which was released today, is available for pre-order on Amazon's site in June after jumping to the top of the charts following death Jobs earlier this month. He is currently first in hardcover and Kindle digital editions as well as an audio recording.
"The way things are trending, which could be very likely that our top-seller of the year," said Amazon spokesman Britain Turner Reuters in a statement.
The book tells the story of Jobs from beginning to end and consists of some 40 interviews with Isaacson was Jobs, who authorized the project and had come to Isaacson, citing the author's ability to get people talking. Isaacson also talked to friends, competitors and colleagues to fill its 656 pages with an account of the lives of Jobs, business and personal.
Originally planned to be released next year, the date of publication of the book was ahead twice. Meanwhile, Jobs took a medical leave from Apple in January, staying out of public view for most of this year, his health worsened, adding extra intrigue story Isaacson.
Citing an anonymous source, Reuters suggests that the book was largely completed by the time the book was originally announced by the publisher Simon & Schuster. However, it has been updated with details on Jobs' death when they went on sale.
Disclosure: "Steve Jobs" is published by Simon & Schuster, which like CBS is owned by CNET

Sprint, Apple says to cook the iPhone 3G set the speed 4S

Sprint and Apple says they are working on a software solution possible for slower than expected speeds of wireless networks that affect some users of the latest iPhone from Apple.

This topic has been the subject of a now 60 page thread support in the Sprint site that started the day the phone launched. Here, users have complained of slow 3G speeds and publication of the photos of the speed tests, including mobile phones showing different to suggest that the problem is limited to the recently launched Apple iPhone hardware 4S.
The Next Web points today to an alleged internal memo going around Sprint representatives said that both Sprint and Apple are aware of and working on a solution, suggesting that the problem could be related to the software.
A Sprint spokesman sent the following statement to CNET, saying it is currently the only response that is accurate and approved for Sprint's partners to offer (emphasis mine):
In general, the performance of iPhone on the Sprint network is consistent with our expectations and the rest of the high-end portfolio. Sprint also made the iPhone benchmarking against iPhones Sprint competition and tests showed little or no difference in performance. We are seeing a very low rate of return for this device, but we are seeing reports of speed issues very closely.
We see opportunities to optimize performance, especially in areas of high network capacity. We see this as a typical optimization work and has no specific area of concern. Sprint is committed to providing the best possible experience for our customers. We listen to our customers and working closely with our partners at Apple to ensure optimal performance of the iPhone on our network.
Apple did not respond to a request for comment.
The subject hears the launch of the iPhone 4, which was led by network problems with its new antenna design. Users complained of a signal of weakness to hold the device firmly and directly in the stainless steel band antenna met. The question was called Antennagate after Apple not recognize it.
Apple responded by holding a press conference showing that it had conducted extensive tests to compare the iPhone 4 results with those of its rivals, suggesting that holding such a cell also affected the signal in other phones , and that Apple was not alone. The company also offers users free bumper to alleviate the problem, a program that kept going for several months, and released a software update that would change "the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to the screen. "
The Next Web suggests a similar software patch could be directed to Sprint devices in the form of a transport configuration file that affect how the phone connects to your network.

John McCarthy, Founder of Lisp programming language, dies

John McCarthy, creator of the Lisp programming language and a pioneer in artificial intelligence, has died. He was 84.
McCarthy died yesterday, Stanford University School of Engineering announced today in a tweet. McCarthy invented Lisp, a program that became the language of your choice for AI in 1958, while at MIT and has published its design in the 1960 paper recursive functions of symbolic expressions and their computation by machine Part I. One of the oldest high level programming language (second only to Fortran), Lisp is still in use today.
He felt there were aspects of human intelligence that could be described accurately enough that a machine can be programmed to simulate it.

"If a machine can do a job, an automatic calculator can be programmed to simulate the machine," he wrote in 1955 a research proposal on the subject. "The speed and memory capabilities of modern computers may be insufficient to simulate many of the higher functions of the human brain, but the biggest obstacle is not lack of capacity of the machine, but our inability to write programs that maximizing have. "
McCarthy also credited with coining the term "artificial intelligence" in this proposal, which he described as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines."
"I got the name when I had to write the proposal for support to research for the Rockefeller Foundation conference," he told CNET News in 2006. "And indeed, the city's name is, I was thinking about the participants rather than the source of funding.
McCarthy was born in 1927 in Boston socialist immigrant parents, who were forced to move frequently during the Great Depression. During his teens, he taught mathematics through the study of textbooks used in Catltech when his family lived in Los Angeles.
When McCarthy enrolled at Caltech, was allowed to waive the first two years of mathematics curriculum. Would earn a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Caltech in 1948 and Ph.D. in mathematics from Princeton in 1951.
McCarthy joined the Stanford faculty in 1962 after short appointments at Princeton, Dartmouth, and MIT. He retired in 2000.
McCarthy won the Turing Award from the Association for Computing Machinery in 1972 and the National Medal of Science in 1991.

Netflix subscribers 800k less humiliating

Netflix Reed Hastings, CEO of subscribers want to know you've heard.
You do not want to order DVDs from a separate service called Qwikster? It destroyed that plan.
You do not like paying more for less selection in streaming-video library of the company? He is beating the bushes to get more movies and TV. He also made to simplify how difficult it is to do that. For the first time, has begun to recognize that Netflix is facing serious obstacles in licensing content, especially movies from major studios. Therefore, almost everything is being put on "pause", including a major international expansion, so you can focus on your audience of home for a while.

"Qwikster became the symbol of Netflix does not listen."
- Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO
Netflix reported earnings today and the company felt the full force of subscriber dissatisfaction. Video rental Web's leading service had added at least 1 million subscribers in each of the last seven consecutive quarters prior to the third quarter of this year. However, for the three months ended September 30 Netflix lost 810,000 subscribers. The company reported 24.6 million subscribers in the second quarter and 23.8. million in the third.
And the prospects for the next two quarters, even darker. For the first quarter of 2012, Netflix said it expects to report a net loss overall.
Although Netflix earnings for the third quarter met analysts' expectations, shares of the company were on thwack after-hours trading, the reduction of 27 percent or $ 32 to $ 86.84. It was not until last July the stock broke through $ 300. Since then, however, the company's shares have shed 71 percent of its value.
For most of the last two years, Netflix has been one of the great successes of the Internet, but is now in danger of becoming a cautionary tale of hubris and collapse. "I slipped into arrogance," Hastings said last month.
The trouble began in July, when Netflix announced that they no longer offer access to the DVD by mail service and unlimited video streaming cost $ 10 a month. Customers could pay $ 8 for streaming or $ 8 for disks or $ 16 for both. Customer cancellations and criticism from the media surprised Netflix managers.
At first, the company downplayed the customer reaction. Netflix expected to finish the third quarter with 25 million subscribers and Hastings boasted that the fourth quarter may bring the company its first quarter of $ 1 billion. Two months later, still screaming customers by increasing prices and the lack of selection in the library of streaming video, Netflix managers reviewed the projections of subscribers. Instead of 25 million subscribers, Netflix would emerge from the third quarter with $ 24 million.

It did not even understand.
Compared to what happened next, however, those days may have been the happiest quarter period.
With customers still reeling from the price increase, Netflix announced abruptly that he was breaking the company into two separate services. Hastings said subscribers a new service called oversee Qwikster DVD rentals, and use it would have to create new accounts, queues, and receive a new bill. Netflix, a service valued for its simplicity, is complicated.
"In retrospect, it is difficult to justify [the announcement Qwikster]," Hastings said during a conference call. "Qwikster became the symbol of Netflix will not hear. Quickly reversed course on that, and we will continue with the DVD as part of the Netflix brand."
In relation to new found humility Hastings, also sounded a cautious tone in a letter to shareholders on the company's ability to acquire more streaming-video content.
Netflix's leaders had said repeatedly that downloading movies over the Internet is the future of home video. But in the past, the company presented openly arrogant task of persuading Hollywood to content licensed from Los Gatos, California, Netflix. Hastings managers shrug and say all they needed was his pen and checkbook.
"The total available is likely to remain divided between Netflix, Showtime, HBO, Hulu and others."
- Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO
Hastings played his company "virtuous circle" where the Netflix content acquired, rather than attract more subscribers, what would pump new money that could use the license more movies and TV shows . In All Things Digital conference last summer, Hastings did not flinch at the prospect of paying $ 200 million a year to Starz, the pay-TV network that owns the online rights to the content of Disney and Sony Pictures.
"That [the price] would not be surprising," said Hastings. "We've grown a lot since [the payment of $ 30 million a year in 2008 for the Starz content], and we pay much more for its contents."
If the signature of Starz was child's play, why negotiations break down? And what happens now. If the number of Netflix subscribers shrinks, as it did in the third quarter, and then - using the logic of Netflix - which means that the company would have less money to pay for TV shows and movies, which means attracting fewer subscribers and so on. In this scenario, the virtuous circle becomes a whirlwind nightmare.
In his letter to shareholders, Hastings detailed some of the challenges in acquiring content.
He wrote about how licensing agreements in the fields of film and television are usually based on exclusive offers and rights to a lot of important content and sewn by others. He cited Hastings online exclusive rights to Universal Pictures has sold to HBO. It does not say is that HBO has similar agreements with 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. This is the contents of three of the six Hollywood movie studios that Netflix can not touch.
With the agreement dead Starz, Netflix is not the most sought after content from five of the six largest.
"Given the existing licensing structure of the cable television industry," wrote Hastings to shareholders ", the total available is likely to remain divided between Netflix, Showtime, HBO, Hulu and others."
What he is saying is not to expect too much from us regarding the latest movies from major studios.
This is probably one reason why Netflix is playing films obtained from "mini-major" film studios and television series reruns. What else needs to attract new customers? During the conference, Hastings was asked by email if he and his company are pleased to be a "replay TV" service.
"It's how I characterize it, but it is fundamentally wrong," said Hastings. "We have incredible full seasons before the last two seasons of 'Men of Man," "Breaking Bad", etc, and creates a great customer experience for episodic content. "
But the point is that this type of content is enough to bring back their old subscribers and grow Netflix? The next couple of quarters that gives us an answer.

Hackers know the data on ex-Treasury Secretary Rubin

Hackers support Occupy wall street protests today released the personal information of former Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, Robert Rubin, the executive who was U.S. Treasury Secretary under President Clinton when the banking reform Glass-Steagall Act was repealed.
The CabinCr3w, hackers aligned with the group of anonymous online activists and protests have been releasing the personal data of the CEOs of Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs and other bankers. He also disclosed information about a police officer in New York accused of excessive use of the provocation and the pepper spray on people in the protests, which began September 17 in New York and have spread worldwide.

SiOnyx laser blast cells to adjust efficiency solar

In the quest to squeeze more power from a solar cell, Harvard University spin-off SiOnyx lasers are used.
The company today announced its third-party testing is Black Silicon laser texturing process increases the efficiency of traditional silicon cells at 0.3 percent. That may sound minor, but solar manufacturers to take about a year to achieve that kind of gain through changes in the process, said Chris Vineis, director SiOnyx solar technology.

The company plans to license its technology, which basically looks at a pattern on the surface of solar grade silicon to manufacturers of solar energy. In the production of traditional silicon solar pure wafer is cut into square, addressed in several steps to make a cell, then mounted on a panel. The process can be adopted by both manufacturers of wafers and cells, Vineis said.
The laser texturing reduces the reflectivity of the silicon, turning dark so they can absorb more light and generate more current. The technology allows manufacturers to use the wafers that are 20 percent thinner, saving 10 percent to 15 percent in cost. Efficiency also yields more consistent between different solar cells, which can vary depending on the crystal structure of the surface, Vineis said.
The performance improvement is measured by the German research institute ISC Konstanz, which found an average efficiency of 17 percent SiOnyx process.
The laser process is designed as a replacement for a chemical step is now used by manufacturers of solar energy. SiOnyx is also developing a laser process to improve the efficiency of 1 percent, which can work with advanced manufacturing techniques now only used by a few solar vendors, Vineis said.
The main business is SiOnyx image sensors, such as chips night vision goggles and other applications. In that case, the company plans to manufacture and sell silicon chips themselves, rather than technology licenses, Vineis said.
SiOnyx laser texture is one of several techniques are developing technology companies to make a gradual improvement in solar cell efficiency and the cost for the modification of existing production lines.

Hackers new Software targets for attack Web servers using secure connections

Hackers have launched a program that allows one computer to finish with a Web server using a secure connection.
THC tool-SSL-DOS, which was published on Monday, allegedly exploits a flaw in the Secure Sockets Layer renegotiation (SSL) by overloading the system with multiple applications for secure connections. SSL renegotiation allows Web sites to create a new security key through an already established connection SSL.

A German group called Choice said hackers exploit published to draw attention to flaws in SSL, which allows sensitive data to flow between Web sites and individual users' computers without being intercepted.
"We expect the SSL security on the fish does not go unnoticed," said an unidentified member of the group in a blog. "The industry should intervene to resolve the problem so that citizens are safe and secure again. SSL is to use a method of aging the protection of private data is complex, unnecessary and unfit for the 21st century."
The exploit still works on servers that have not enabled SSL renegotiation, the group said, but requires some modifications and more computers. The group said that the operation will allow a single laptop IBM to end media server in a standard DSL connection.
The tool is available on Unix and Windows binary code. The technical details are available here.

Falling prices, the oversupply of solar hit in the third quarter

The solar industry is in grave quarter as falling government subsidies and low volumes to lower prices further in a time machine that oversupply has led many players in the industry to reduce its forecast annual profit.
A rebound in demand for solar panels, which is expected by industry players for the second half, did not materialize, carrying several U.S. companies, manufacturer Solyndra panels above all, to declare bankruptcy in recent months.
European players have been cutting their views on the fall in demand in Germany, including SMA Solar, manufacturer of the world's No. 1 solar inverters and solar energy leading company in Europe by market value.

"We will see a whole set of sad result," said Thiemo Lang, portfolio manager at Sustainable Asset Management, owner of Yingli Green, Canadian Solar and Trina Solar shares from July.
"The industry is currently suffering from oversupply, combined with demand still in silence, putting pressure on prices would be. The companies report very poor margins and / or losses from high-priced inventories ( you) have to work through now, "he said.
In problems
Suntech China, the world's largest manufacturer of solar cells is expected to report much larger than expected loss in the third quarter, according to StarMine equity firm research, which gives more weight to analysts' forecasts more historically accurate.
The company expects to release results in mid-November.
"Q3 volumes have not picked up as expected, despite the favorable rates of return given the low average selling prices. The main reason seems to be the issues of funding and projects postponed due to expectations of lower prices "said Deutsche Bank analyst Katja Filzek.
Norway's Renewable Energy Corp to be the first major player to the report, expected to post third-quarter earnings on Oct. 26. The best players in Germany, including SMA, Centrotherm and SolarWorld, are due in the first half of November.
Cooling demand in Germany, the largest market for solar energy, has beaten particular industry, which still depends on government subsidies to survive. While solar installations accounted for 45 percent of the world in 2010, this share could halve this year, the industry association EPIA said.
The problems of the sector is a large-scale trade war that erupted last week when the solar western companies increased efforts to secure the rights of rigidity imposed on products manufactured in China solar energy. The outlook for Western energy companies solar is really sad, Financière de l'Echiquier fund manager Frederic Plisson said.
"The companies are in trouble now and will be more in a few years," he said. "(To them) will be very difficult to compete with emerging companies."

Amazon tablet may be hot holiday gadget

Fire tablet Kindle might be the best-selling gadget this holiday, pushing profit margins of Amazon.com Inc., but giving the world's leading Internet retailer potentially millions of new customers with high purchasing power. From Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos unveiled the tablet to a lower than expected price of $ 199 on 28 September, some analysts have increased their sales estimates for the device. Amazon has 95,000 pre-orders fire on his first day and had an average of 20,000 a day since then, email monitoring eDataSource company estimated. The device ships November 15.
Technology blog AllThingsD reported October 6 that Amazon is selling more than 25,000 fires a day, citing unnamed sources close to the company. "The numbers are rumored by the network are too low," said Mark Gerber, an analyst at Detwiler Fenton & Co. "very strong pre-orders and the amazing price of $ 199 means it will easily become five million units this quarter. "Gerber is expected Amazon to sell tablets 3-4000000 fire in the fourth quarter. Amazon declined to comment. However, Gerber and other analysts will be watching closely for clues on the orders of the tablet when the company reports results on October 25. The company is expected to make a profit in the third quarter of 24 cents per share on revenue of $ 10.93 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I / B / E / S.

Pedro Rojas, head of gdgt. com and co-founder of gadget sites Gizmodo and Engadget, hopes the Kindle fire is hottest product this holiday season, ahead of Roku boxes TV, and the new Canon PowerShot S100. $ 199 Fire means that people who already have more expensive iPhone Apple will buy the device as a second tablet to his family, said Rojas. "A lot of people started having more than one computer at home in recent years and cheaper netbooks met this need perfectly," Rojas told Reuters. "The fire Kindle could meet the demand for a second tablet." Other buyers will be people who do not like Apple or passed on buying an iPad, as it was too expensive, said Rojas. "They have been waiting for the iPad alternative to leave and never did," said Rojas. "Amazon was played smart - just enough dissatisfaction out there with iPad alternatives."
Apple iPad has created a new segment of the PC market and now Amazon has created a new market segment of the tablets, according to field Sunday, a partner at The Boston Consulting Group and author of a recent report on the market the tablets. "Our research suggests that $ 199 is the price the American mass market was looking for in a tablet," said Field. "This is the point where it goes from being a phenomenon of great success for the first in the consumer market." Ashok Kumar, an analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, recently raised its estimate for sales of five million units fire in the fourth quarter from a previous forecast of three million dollars. It was initially a problem with the supply of sample for the device, but this has been corrected, said Kumar. "They're priming the supply chain for this to be a very successful product in a lot of Christmas trees this season people," he said. Colin Sebastian, an analyst at RW Baird, has published an estimate of fourth quarter sales of three million tablets of fire, but said five million units are possible if Amazon keeps the production, transportation and other bottlenecks.
Initially, sales of Kindle Amazon Fire dent profitability, in part because the company is selling the device at cost or even a slight loss. Dan Geiman, an analyst at McAdams Wright Ragen, Amazon expects operating profit margin to fall to 1.5 percent in the third quarter from 3.5 percent a year earlier. However, getting the tablet into as many hands as possible can drive higher sales and profits in the Amazon in the coming years, Geiman and others said. The fire Kindle comes with a month of Amazon Prime free and the device are expected to encourage more customers to register for the service. The premium service costs $ 79 per year in the United States and includes two days free shipping on eligible purchases from Amazon.
It also gives members free access to instant streaming of more than 12,000 movies and TV shows. Amazon has more than 12 million customers in the first and buy the products at least three times after registering for the service, according to estimates by ChannelAdvisor, a provider of software that helps retailers sell online. UBS analysts Brian Pitz and Brian Fitzgerald estimated that members of the first increase in purchases of five to eight times a year or more after joining. ChannelAdvisor Amazon expects to sell more than five million tablets of fire in the fourth quarter and more than 20 million next year. UBS analysts estimated that sales have been more conservative. But if half of Kindle users register for the first fire, Amazon could end 2012 with more than 20 million "heavy-spending" subscriber of the Government, they said.

Battlefield 3 will play on a console? Then you had better pack high definition textures.

Only one more day left for the arrival of the three highly anticipated battle for PC and consoles. The main reason why the game has attracted so much attention is because of its graphics, which seem to be pushing the limits of what is currently possible in games, in a way that no party has done since the original Crysis came out four years ago .

From what I can say that will be the best looking game on the PC. But what if you have a console? Well, EA has an optional battery pack high definition textures for which you will find that the quality of the textures to make the game look almost as good as the PC version. But what I can see in pictures, this package of high definition textures seems more obligatory than optional.
If you look at the screenshots below, you will see that without the texture pack high definition gaming missing a big piece of detail in the environment. This may not be immediately perceptible and was blissfully ignorant if you have not seen the difference with the HD texture pack enabled. But now that you have not be able to unseen.

My recommendation would be to go for the HD texture pack, if you will buy this game in the console. It's a strong 1.5 GB download, but looking at the amount of detail that is said will be worth the bandwidth and hard drive space is going to sacrifice for it.

Take a put look at Gigabyte’s G1.Assassin 2 board

While there is no recognized time of Intel’s approaching Exotic Fill E cpus, brands are displaying off motherboards using the X79 chipset. Gb is one of the key system panel brands and their G1 line group of fan training designs will also have an added associate to the household soon. Their G1.Assassin 2 line of motherboards will use the X79 chipset and should be directed at the fan and player visitors. Gb has found off a few shots of their approaching system panel. It’s hard to know all details of the panel but some of the apparent ones are the truth that the system panel will have the Bigfoot Fantastic E2100 NIC and Creative’s X-Fi music brand. Being a high-end enthusiast-class system panel, in addition, there's the pretty heatsinks placed all around the system panel, such as one that's in the appearance of a gun.
All this quick increase in details on the X79 system panel indicates that the recognized start of Intel’s new Exotic Fill E cpus might be sometime in mid-November. A lot of cpus will be presented - mostly 6-core, 12-threaded ones. Costs of these designs is likely to array between $300 and $999 (approximately Rs. 13,500 to Rs. 45,000). AMD's Trinity to hit areas early

AMD has had quite a few starts and a reasonable total of achievement with their merchandise this season. Their Bulldozer structure brand machines, named Interlagos presented recently. AMD had confirmed off their new AMD Trinity APU on laptops and the products was estimated to start sometime in 2012. According to Hot Components, released glides present that the APU might start as previously as The 30 days of january next season, just a few several weeks from now. AMD’s Trinity is said to have around 50 % increased operation than the Llanos APUs; all thanks to an increased design option. The 35W double center brand, and two 45W quad-core cpus should be set by The 30 days of january.
It’s not all very good information for AMD. They had diminished its prediction for the third 1 / 4 for 2011, and had attributed the produce of the 32nm Llanos to be the cause for operation. Identical issues persisted with the production of 45nm snacks, because of popular hardware used in the practice. The AMD’s Bulldozer cpus have been late by quite a bit and the pc cpus, Zambezi are yet to appear. The previously start of the Trinity APUs should increase income for AMD in the first 1 / 4 of 2012.

Intel unintentionally shows details of approaching Atom N2000 series

With AMD Union APUs like E-series ‘Zacate’ and C-series ‘Ontario’-based laptop providing like pancakes, Intel’s once preferred Atom-based microchips have taken a back burner with regards to revenue. This is generally due to the truth that AMD’s snacks supply better bang-for-buck by giving better media features and better power. Intel’s Plank Path microchips seem almost set and now thanks to a datasheet transferred by Apple themselves, they have unveiled further information about the approaching 32nm CPUs. The N2000 line will create its way to laptop and other cell phone phones, while the D2000 line will come to personal computers and nettops.
There’ll be two designs available from each line at start. The N2600 will be restricted to just 2GB of RAM while the N2800 will service a greatest of 4GB. Also, the former processor will only take 1 DIMM position, while all the others will service two. This seems like a talk issue from Intel’s piece and will probably go up against the C-series APUs from AMD. The built in GPU has gotten a considerable increase and now helps DisplayPort, HDMI 1.3a, LVDS and D-sub on-line. As you can see from the solution information, video-out through LVDS (that’s the relationship between the movie greeting card and your netbooks display) is restricted to 1366x768 for the N2000 line. While this seems a bit low, keep in mind that this processor will be used generally in laptop, which never go beyond that solution. Video-out through the other ties, however will service Complete HD promises. The new GPUs will also service components deciphering of MPEG 2, VC1, WMV, H.264 movie channels up to 1080p. Curiously, there is no components dependent Show service beyond 11.0.
